Happy New Year!!!
How do you feel about New Year’s Eve? Does it make you happy, sad, inspired? Are you excited for all new possibilities?
I’m not usually one of those people who waits for the beginning of the next year to miraculously change me. I believe each day is a fresh new start (especially Mondays :). But still I think there is something magical about New Year’s Eve. I don’t know what it is. Maybe the fireworks?
If you’re anything like me, you start the year off with a list of big goals. There’s something very creative about resolutions, like you can just recreate yourself. Every year I look for inspiration everywhere (mostly in art and literature) and I try to have my resolutions ready by 31 December. But this year I was a bit busy around the holidays and I’m setting my resolutions now. If you are late like me, or if you just want to add a few more to your list, here are 5 suggestions for New Year’s resolutions for the creative and artistic person.
LEARN A NEW MEDIUM
What have you always wanted to try but never did? Like a new art technique or a medium you haven’t used before? Now is your chance. Dive in! Trying to solve a new challenge will make you open your mind. Thinking outside of the box will directly influence and improve your skills. Take the first step and strive for growing as an artist.
TAKE AN ART CLASS
Just think how much you can learn from someone else’s professional experiences. Growing as an artist and exploring what is out there can be very beneficial for your work. Take a chance to shift your perspective and view things through different eyes.
CLEAN UP YOUR WORK SPACE
Are you an artistic slob? Is your work space a huge mess? Make a resolution to declutter your creative space and to keep it clean and organized. Trust me, working in a tidy and organized environment can be very inspiring and helps your creativity flow.
TRY AN OLD TECHNIQUE
Is there an old technique that you think has outlived its usefulness? Or maybe a technique that you used before and for some reason stopped using? You can learn a lot about your progress as an artist if you take a fresh look at your previous work. By studying the past you can create something completely new and different.
MAKE SOMETHING CREATIVE EVERY DAY
Creativity is like a muscle. If you exercise, it will become strong and serve you well. So put your brain to work and do something creative every day. It doesn’t have to be something big and flashy, just something to get your juices flowing.
Making your list of resolutions and searching for ideas can be so much fun. I hope this list helped you with a few ideas. If you have some suggestion for me leave them in the comments below.
